Street and motorcycle racing in the US, while thrilling and often romanticized, are dangerous and illegal activities. Participants seek the rush of adrenaline and bragging rights, but the consequences can be severe.

Statistics paint a grim picture. While precise national figures for illegal street racing are difficult to obtain due to its clandestine nature, data on motor vehicle crashes involving excessive speed offers a proxy.
